What is zinc and why is it important?
Zinc is an essential trace element that the body cannot produce itself but is necessary for many vital processes. It is an important component of about 300 enzymes and plays a central role in metabolism, especially in the breakdown and production of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. The body contains about 2–4 grams of zinc, but storage is only short-term, which is why a regular intake through food or supplements is required.
The benefits of zinc:
-
Promotes cell division: Zinc supports cell regeneration and is essential for cell growth and repair.
-
Strengthening skin, hair, and nails: Zinc helps maintain healthy skin, strong hair, and stable nails.
-
Wound healing and skin health: Zinc promotes wound healing and helps treat skin problems such as acne or herpes.
-
Supports the immune system: Zinc contributes to a normal function of the immune system and protects against external stressors.
-
Promotes protein metabolism: It plays an important role in protein metabolism, which contributes to muscle health.
