Cardamom (also known as Elaichi or Ela) is a spice whose dark brown seeds grow in green pods. It belongs to the same plant family as ginger and turmeric, the Zingiberaceae.

Cardamom helps to balance the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It also strengthens the digestive fire (Agni) without increasing the Pitta dosha.
Application: Cardamom goes particularly well with cauliflower, dhal dishes, desserts and pastries. It is also an aromatic ingredient for your coffee.
