About the acerola cherry:
The indigenous peoples of the Mayan culture already viewed acerola as a source of health and greatly appreciated its small, healing fruits. However, the name Acerola was first changed to “azarole” by the Spanish conquerors, which means “useful and pretty” and also because the exotic fruit was visually reminiscent of the sweet cherries in their homeland. In German-speaking countries they are therefore also referred to as acerola cherries or Barbados cherries.
