Information on Ayurvedic Herbal Oils:
Oils play a crucial role in many types of Ayurvedic treatments, whether for health maintenance or therapy.
As a first step, various plant ingredients are boiled in water according to the recipe. The boiling process continues until only a highly concentrated decoction remains. This decoction is then added to a base oil - usually sesame or coconut oil - and boiled further. A paste of plant and mineral components is also added. The addition of ingredients, as well as the stirring of the oil, is accompanied by various mantras. The production of an oil with a moderately complex recipe typically takes more than 12 hours for two people for 20 liters of oil.
According to Ayurvedic view and experience, due to the long heating and stirring, the medicated oil is much more easily absorbed by the human body and integrated into its own metabolism. The oil also takes on the properties of its ingredients and also acts in a very subtle way.
