Fennel (Misreya, Madhurika) has the taste (Rasa) sweet, spicy, bitter. According to Ayurvedic understanding, it is supposed to slightly stimulate Agni. Fennel seeds have a calming effect on Vata and Pitta. Their slightly sweet taste has been familiar to many small children and nursing mothers for generations.
Fennel seeds are used as tea or spice.
