Turmeric (Haridra, Haldi, Curcuma longa, turmeric) is a golden yellow root tuber from the same family as ginger (Zingiberaceae). The taste (rasa) is bitter and spicy. All three doshas are balanced by turmeric.
Turmeric is often used in Asian cuisine, especially in curries, rice dishes and soups.
